Information

TopSpec AntiLam is a palatable, pelleted forage balancer specifically designed to provide 5-way nutritional support for those prone to laminitis. It can also be fed to horses and ponies undergoing veterinary care. AntiLam is a brilliant formulation which contains a range of highly-effective supplements, pelleted onto a cereal-grain-free, low sugar, low starch, high fibre, and very low-calorie, ‘Non-Heating’ balancer base.

AntiLam is used and recommended by nutritionists, vets, and farriers during and following veterinary treatment.

This unique forage balancer is so palatable that it can be fed out of the hand to horses and ponies at pasture to provide vital nutritional support. Long-term trials, at the TopSpec Equine Research Centre, have shown that AntiLam will not promote condition when fed as part of a calorie-controlled diet. In all cases, AntiLam must be used in conjunction with a suitable feeding and management programme.

AntiLam should be fed on its own with forage. The forage can be in the form of late-cut hay and/or unmolassed chops e.g. TopChop Lite, TopChop Zero, controlled grazing, or a combination of these, depending on the individual circumstances.

For example, we would recommend that an overweight 12hh pony, on box-rest, should receive 125g of AntiLam plus 1kg of TopChop Lite twice a day. In addition, 2kg (1 flap) of late-cut meadow hay that has been soaked for about 12 hours in ample fresh, cool, clean water, should be fed daily.

When horses and ponies are prone to laminitis, TopSpec nutritionists always recommend that the total diet is high in fibre and low in sugar and starch.

TopSpec nutritionists recommend that horses and ponies can stay on AntiLam permanently. However, if extra condition is needed, Comprehensive Feed Balancer is a very safe product to use. If extra condition is not needed, we recommend that healthy horses and ponies stay on AntiLam for at least a year but, after that, they can be fed Lite Feed Balancer provided they are not obese and do no more than light work.

Further Key Nutritional Facts:-

  • The formula includes the level of biotin (15mg/500kg horse/day) that is scientifically proven to improve hoof quality, plus the levels of methionine, cysteine, lysine, calcium, zinc, copper, iodine, and vitamin A known to improve the efficiency of biotin alone. Certain of these nutrients will also help to maintain a supple skin and promote a shiny coat.
  • High levels of a pure, protected probiotic yeast are included to help maintain near neutral (normal and healthy) conditions in the hindgut.
  • Additional MOS (mannan oligosaccharides) is added to support the yeast and help maintain a healthy digestive immune system.
  • The formula includes generous levels of antioxidants, including vitamins A, C, D and E plus selenium, to help maintain healthy cells in all circumstances.
  • A top specification, general-purpose supplement is added, vital for horses and ponies on a restricted diet.
  • Generous levels of B vitamins, to compensate for decreased production in the hindgut when fibre intake is limited.
  • Organic chelated minerals are included to improve availability.

AntiLam is available in 15kg sacks, which last a 500kg horse for 30 days or a 250kg pony for 60 days.
