Ex-racehorse, Baz, has found his calling in the show ring taking two championships at their first ever show. Owned by Lucy Dobson from Scotland, Baz headed the line up in both the in-hand ex-racehorse class and the large ridden hunter class, before standing champion in both sections at Highfield Show in Fife.Known on the racing circuit as Barr Head, 12-year-old Baz is a typical ex-racehorse and at 17hh he struggles to maintain weight and condition.Said Lucy: "We had a fantastic day and it was only our third ever outing together and our first showing competition. It was a long day for him but he behaved impeccably andreceived some lovely comments from the judges on how supple and shiny he was; I was very proud of him."In the past he has struggled to maintain his weight and can also be a bit sharp, on top of that he can be quite fussy and in the past would eat one type of feed for a few weeks and then go off it completely. "In April 2014 our local TopSpec nutritionist came for a yard visit with the weighbridge, she gave me some great advice on his nutritional needs and made up a feed plan that included TopSpec Cool Conditioning Cubes and TopSpec Comprehensive Feed Balancer. "The great thing about it is I know that he is getting the correct amount of nutrients for his workload without having to give him an excessively large ration. I can honestly say that we’ve never looked back! He looks fantastic and in great condition, he now enjoys his feed too so maintaining his weight is no longer an issue and people always comment on how shiny he is!”Lucy is planning to focus Baz on dressage this season with a number of outings already planned.
